Down – 148 lbs!
Nov 4 2009
Hello Dr. Amson,
I am a 36 yr old female who has had issues with weight after the birth of my 2nd child. I went to a high of 185lbs. I had tried many diets like Jenny Craig, herbal magic (3 times), lost the weight and then gained 3times as much when I came off the programs. These programs cost me a lot of money; especially herbal magic. After you reach your goal weight you have to do 1 yr of maintenance where the food increases and the supplements decrease. Every time I made it to the maintenance part but failed after that. I must have spent close to $10k-$15k on trying to lose the weight. I would go into depression when I started to gain weight; I was gaining about 2-2.5 lbs per week.
I had heard of bariatric surgery from a co-worker who had the gastric bypass done by dr. Amson.
In Jan 2008 I had surgery to remove my gallbladder (multiple stones) and discovered that dr. Amson was in the same office as the surgeon who removed my gallbladder. At a follow up appt for my gallbladder, I asked for a referral to see dr. Amson and 1st saw him in march 2008. I went to the group support meetings but in January I had already decided that I was going to have gastric banding done. The bypass was the only option open to me as I was not morbidly obese.
I had my surgery in may 2008 and I am down to 148 lbs now. I only took a week off work (big mistake). I would like to be 140 lbs. I have lost a lot of inches and I look and feel good. The weight has come off gradually and I am enjoying the new me.
I did not have any serious complications. I would throw up occasionally; eating too fast or eating more of the flour goods.
I work full time and am a mother of 2 girls. The challenge that I still have is incorporating exercise into my day. I should be walking or doing some sort of physical activity for about 1 hr/day. I feel that had I taken the time off work when I had the surgery would have really helped me develop my routine and plan my meals.
I don’t have any regrets about my decision to have the banding done. I wanted to have it done now instead of being morbidly obese so I did not have to deal with other issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, etc………
